How to be ageless

Writer: Dotti KeagyDotti Keagy

The term "ageless" seems to imply a certain beauty, attitude and vitality, but what really makes us ageless? In photographer Karen Williams Johnston's new book, "Ageless," she photographed and interviewed 14 incredible women—ages 40-79—who reveal their heartfelt secrets to a life well lived.

I had the great fortune to meet and hire fashion photographer Karen Williams Johnston when I was a fashion editor with Women's Wear Daily, and our friendship has spanned decades! She has always had the ability to bring out the true essence and beauty of every person she photographs, and her new book showcases that talent. In addition to the stellar imagery in this gorgeous coffee table book, her subjects reveal what they believe makes every woman truly "ageless."

Angie Bolling

Born in Mobile, Alabama in 1953, Angie has been a nurse's aide, art teacher, tour guide, makeup artist, model and actress.

"When someone is referred to as ageless, I think of a person who is older than she may appear to be, with an open, intelligent, high-spirited, energetic and optimistic attitude; but who is grounded in common sense and ageless wisdom."

"I think the healthiest thing I do for myself is maintaining my relationships with my family and good friends, and spending time with people who make me LAUGH!"

Marianne Green

Marianne, 56, who was a top model in 1980, is currently a fashion stylist based in Houston, and mom to one son.

"Call it arrested development, call it a youthful spirit...being ageless is just letting yourself BE—knowing what you know now, being who you now are, and becoming everything that is possible! There is nothing more unattractive and aging than becoming cynical, jaded and dismissive."

Jan Strimple

The book's cover model, Jan, 63, has walked runways around the world for numerous global luxury brands, as well as been an avid fundraiser for the fight against AIDS, human rights and the empowerment of young women.

"Fill your life with positive and passionate people. Don't be afraid to give and receive love. These things help fluff your aura, the result of which is a more attractive vibe. Surround yourself with young adults and concern yourself with what's in their heads. While you help them cultivate their worlds, you add longevity to yours, if only measured by influence and legacy. That will keep you here beyond your years!"
