Easy, painless water therapy

When it comes to exercise, sometimes even walking isn't pain free. Enter some simple, inexpensive water aids to make cardio and toning exercises comfortable and easy.

I used to love brisk walking for at least 30 minutes, three times a week, as my favorite form of cardio. Now, thanks to disc problems and sciatica, that's sort of gone by the wayside. I'm lucky to have access to a pool (a necessity in Florida, whether it's a personal or community pool), but regular swimming doesn't work either. Why? I can't put my head in the water because of inner ear problems, and I can't swim with my head out of the water because of pain in my C5 and C6 vertebrae. And even water aerobics classes often irritated something or other. The solution? Two great aquatic exercise devices:

The WaterGym LLC Water Aerobics Float Belt is a molded foam belt that allows you to remain upright in the water as you perform exercises or swim. The belt adjusts comfortably, and after two years of use, is still like new. I have absolutely no pain in any part of my body when I swim with this belt, and recommend it highly.

The Trademark Innovations Aquatic Exercise Dumbells work your upper body without the possibility of injuring yourself as you might with regular dumbbells. The resistance you get under water is absolutely astonishing, and has become a great part of my aquatic exercise routine.

Both of these devices come with instructions and suggested exercises, so you will undoubtedly find just what works for you.
